LIVE IS THE NEW BLACK ?
In this changing age, Live gigs are hailed as the saviour of the industry, but are they?
The Bedford, 77 Bedford Hill, Balham SW12 9HD Wednesday, October 13th - doors at 6.30 - Free entry www.thebedford.com
How does the 21st Century performer and singer/songwriter break through in this overcrowded and ever changing industry. Is it enough to have recorded a good song or do you have to get out there and play live?
Lets Talk Musics theme for October is Gigs, Tours, Live and More. We are in a world of evolving technologies and new mediums, but the general consensus of opinion is that LIVE MUSIC is even more important than ever, so we have assembled an astonishing line up of experts that will be taking part in Lets Talk Music LIVE. Dennis Arnold from AAA, promoters for Paul Weller, Kylie Minogue, Westlife and hundreds more, Mike Kaufman from Live Nation, the biggest promoters in the world who have recently changed the face of the Music Businesss by doing direct deals with Artists like Madonna, James from the Hole Agency looking after a number of niche artists including the South African performer Johnny Clegg and finally Nate James, the Mobo winning singer who gigs constantly around the world.
Hosted and presented by Tony Moore the panel will be talking about exactly where we are now, and visions of the future, plus answering questions from the audience.
The evening is open to all but strictly on a first come first get in basis. Judging by the popularity of the first two shows it is well worth coming early to be sure of being a part of the audience! Doors open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7.00pm. There will be exclusive live music performances from Nate James + a special guest.
Questions from the audience are encouraged, so if there is anything that you wish to know about Publishing, the panel will attempt to give you an answer. For those unable to make it in person the show will be webcast live (via the Bedford website) as well as simulcasting into Second Life (see www.dublinsl.com for more information).
There will be an interval at 8.30 and then there will be a full acoustic show that starts from 9pm and runs for the rest of the evening.

K. T. Tunstall chooses the 2008 Shure Creative Award winner
Best-selling artist K.T. Tunstall recently judged the final of an innovative new award for aspiring singer-songwriters – the Shure Creative Award, which is jointly sponsored by Shure, the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and Play Music Pickup magazine.
Applicants were asked to upload a video of themselves performing an original song to www.shurecreativeaward.com which following a round of public voting and judging by a panel of experts resulted in a final ten being passed on to K. T., who chose the overall winner.
We are now delighted to announce details of the winner - Kimya Razavi, a singer/songwriter from Birmingham. Kimyas original and inventive song, Stupid Cupid, can be viewed at www.shurecreativeaward.com/kimya-razavi. KT commented the following after making her decision:
It was really a difficult task choosing a winner from such a diverse range of talented entrants to this competition. However, I was really taken by the different stylistic influences that Kimya is exploring, and most of all I was struck by her lyrics. She's obviously not following the crowd in either area. Hopefully she'll now have chance to grow a little forest of unique, original material.
As a result of winning this competition, Kimya now has the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to professionally develop her talent and skills with a free place on the Institute’s fantastic one-year Higher Diploma course (worth £4,950). As well as enjoying this great opportunity to learn, Kimya will also benefit from the many opportunities at the Institute to write, collaborate and perform in live London showcase events in front of key industry people. Kimya is of course delighted with this, and had the following to say:
Im extremely grateful to the competition organizers for giving me the fantastic opportunity to develop my skills in singing and song writing at the ICMP. This is a once in a life time opportunity that I cherish and value enormously!
Special mention should also be made of the two runners-up, Daisy Borthwick and Amy Leeder, who both received the opportunity to study at the Institute for significantly reduced fees as well some fabulous prizes from Shure, including such items as a Beta 58 microphone and a pair of SCL4 professional earphones and an SM58 Vocal microphone.
The Shure Creative Award will now run as an annual competition, so watch the website www.shurecreativeaward.com for details of the 2009 competition – your chance to win a course of study and develop your network in London at one of the world’s leading schools of contemporary music!

Due to severe weather conditions in the Somerset area, Sunrise 2008 has been officially postponed till 2009.
We’re definitely going to go for it again as soon as we can and we are determined to honour every ticket that we have sold. Thank you for your patience, support and understanding.
Watch this space for our next announcement . Right now, we’ve got an awful lot of infrastructure to carefully dismantle… and a lot of drying out to do… So too have the people who actually made it all the way down to Somerset and who joined us on site for our first day.
We’re sorry too, to those who arrived later and were turned away. We had to stop but till the last possible minute we were pushing on through the wind, the rain and the floods in the hope that we could still make it happen for everyone.
